Thanks everybody for the wonderful birthday wishes!
Here’s a picture of the cake I got; it took forever to finish it! For four days straight, I was eating cake for breakfast and snack. And I had my friends help me out.
Since I have had a busy week since returning to campus, here’s what I’ve been up to:
- New classes! I am currently taking Chinese Foreign Policy, Data Structures in Java, Major Works in Japanese Cinema, Macroeconomics, The New Europe in Literature, and Kayaking. I really like them all so far, with the exception of Kayaking, because it doesn’t start in a few weeks.
It’s nice to have more humanities classes this semester, as opposed to the last three semesters, where I pretty much limited myself to science / math. - Meetings … and lots of them. I’ve been getting more involved in extracurriculars, and I’m actually pretty excited about planning new things for these groups!
- I got an internship this spring at a web/interactive design company (!). I just started, and I can tell it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Plus, it’s walking distance from a lot of great places to eat, such as Shake Shack. - I’ve been doing lots of website redesigning for two of the groups I’m involved in. If anything on this list is keeping me busy, it might be this because I’m trying to get past the learning curve for Drupal. Basically, I’ve got my work cut out for me.
- Happy Chinese New (牛) Year everybody! 牛(niu) Year, get it?! Punny! I’m getting dim sum in two days and watching the parade in Chinatown — can’t wait!
- I am going to London with my friend this spring! I have only been to Europe once, and that was a short trip to Paris when I was 12. Basically, if you have ever been to London/lived in the area, recommendations would be great! Any museums/attractions that I definitely need to visit? Or food that I have got to try? I have already added Platform 9 and 3/4 to my list.
So that is basically my life of last week (and probably throughout this semester)! What about you guys? What have you been up to/what’s new about 2009?

That’s probably the best pun I’ve heard all week! Happy Niu Year to you too!
You lucky bum, I’ve never even been to Europe!

Whenever my family gets a nice big cake, I always expect it to take a long time to finish. Unfortunately, it rarely lasts more than 2 days
Yay for new classes, more extracurriculars, and your internship! The internship sounds great.
You’ll have to check out Amanda’s blog (jing-wen.com) for the London thing.

happy belated birthday!
I have already added Platform 9 and 3/4 to my list.
haha, on my trip to england in 2004, my family only had one afternoon/evening to spend in London and I seriously dragged my poor, tired family all the way to Kings Cross Station so I could satiate my fangirl dreams. it was so worth it. if I go back someday, I think i’d like to ride on the london eye. and I didn’t get to see big ben or any museums. alas!
also, kayaking class?! jealousssssss.

The cake looks really delicious. Happy Belated Birthday and Happy Niu Year to you.
Ahh.. web site redesigning is always a fun and enjoyable thing to do for me. A pity I don’t have the time. I’m busy with the huge family gathering we are having today, food… food… and more food…

I used to enjoy all my “fun” classes during my university days such as ice-skating and my French lessons. I also took a class on human sexuality and had wanted to take up tap-dancing and bowling for my electives but they were always full by the time I am allowed to register. Hope you have fun with your classes!

Happy belated birthday.
I currently live in London. I can really recommend some of the free museums – namely the British Museum (which features collections from all over the world including real life Egyptian mummies!), Science Museum and Natural History Museum, but I’m a sucker for the London Transport Museum (which has an entry fee). The Imperial War Museum is pretty good, too, if you’re that kind of girl (they have a great Holocaust exhibition) but it’s a bit out of the way.
Covent Garden is great for a nice dinner (it’s quite a hip and happening area), Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus are great for high street shopping (Regent St is particularly expensive) but Camden is amazing for alternative clothing and ‘little known’ bits and bobs – they also have huge numbers of ethnic food stalls.
Taking a stroll along the embankment is always nice – amazing views of the houses of parliament, London Eye, etc. etc. It is especially beautiful at night when all the buildings are lit up.
Bring an umbrella, though. Chances are the weather will turn shit on you at some point.

Webdesigning eh? Sounds like you’re really gonna enjoy that since it seems as if you’re very much into it already
That’s such a cute cake. My boyfriend got me a birthday cake as well last year when I turned 20 and it was filled with oh so yummy sugary flowers!

Right now it sounds like WordPress is the best blogging platform out there right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?
