The Chapter of Your Life Entitled San Francisco

After a gentle reminder that I indeed haven’t blogged in a while, I figured I ought to provide an explanation for my unannounced hiatus. Said explanation also requires me to reveal Major Life News. Since my graduation, I’ve been travelling for the past month and a half (Hangzhou, Seoul, Hong Kong, Italy/Greece), with a few pitstops back home in Shanghai. I have enough photos to fill up all of my memory cards, but my travels aren’t exactly the Life News I intend to reveal, nor are they a legitimate excuse as to why I haven’t been blogging. In fact, you’d think more photos would equate to more blog posts. Which is indeed quite true, in Cindy!logic. But I digress.

Guess what, kids! I’m moving to San Francisco (!!!!!!). I know I mentioned a few months ago that I’d be moving to Austin, but a little over a week ago, the company transferred me to their main headquarters in Mountain View, CA, so it looks like I’m going to be an official California resident! So, basically, same company, different office. The whole move both excites and stresses me out, seeing as I’m leaving for Sanfran in less than 24 hours to pick out apartments and more importantly, get my shit together. Yeah. The past few days have been spent scouring Craigslist ads and broker sites, both with varied results.

In an ideal world, I’d have a place secured by my start date, which got pushed back to July 25th. But of course, that might be asking for a lot. We’ll see. Am I excited? Of freaking course, even if my excitement often gets eclipsed by OH SHIT WHAT DO I DO WITH MY SELF.

P.S. I’m a bit of a Bay Area noob, so if any of you Californians have suggestions, tips, recommendations (food, shopping, etc), whathaveyou — I’m all ears.

  1. That mustn’t have been me then, mine was more than a “gentle reminder”, haha :p

I know I’m just repeating myself but THIS IS SO EXCITING!!! I wiiiish I could live in SanFran, or at least go for an extended length of time, it’s such an amazing city. Did I ever mention the City Pass to you? I’m sure i did… but that’s mostly for a take-everything-in-asap kind of thing. Kuleto’s on Powell is a reaaaally nice restaurant. And the prices are very good for value too. I doubt you’d ever have to dine alone like I did, but they’ve got a bar-like area that looks into the kitchen for lone diners so it’s not like you have to sit awkwardly at a table alone ;). The Owl Bar I thought was nice just because I love owls, but The Ambassador is a nice bar for cheap drinks ($2 tuesssdays!) but if you want to keep your sanity, never go to the Hemlock Tavern like I did. Also, I can’t remember the name of it, but I’m sure you won’t have any trouble finding all the delicious food in North Beach 🙂

Let us know what you actually get up to and good luck apartment hunting!

    • Pffft, totally yours! 😛

Oooh, now I’ll have to keep these recs in mind because I’ve been absolutely scatterbrained since arriving here! Right now I’m totally dining alone like the person I am, since I don’t know too many people in the area. 🙂 And ooh, Owl Bar — sounds awesome! THANKS BUNCHES.

  2. Oh man, I’d LOVE to move to work for a company who would relocate me somewhere as nice as Cali.

  3. Ay, that’s mucho exciting! All of it. Shit, your life rocks.

  4. That’s awesome! San Francisco is such a great city, I’m a little jealous.

  5. I totally just stumbled on this entry + your website by accident via Snark, but oddly enough, I did live in San Francisco (extreme downtown/city center to be exact) for over 8 months whilst attending university. I’m sure you’ve heard of Union Square…I lived about 4 blocks away from it, so not very far at all. 🙂 Ehe. I spent a heck of a lot of time in Chinatown though, which was also only a few blocks down the street from my residence.

I can’t really give you any big tips on fantastic places to dine and whatnot since I was a college student on a really tight budget – and San Francisco is really damn expensive for everything – but depending on where you are moving to, I could probably give you some pointers and directions. 🙂 I loved living there and was sad I had to leave in the end; it’s a fantastic city and I love it. I will have to come back to your blog to see what all you post about it. Ehe!

    • HI. This is awesome. Really awesome, actually! It’s funny, because I’m actually staying near Union Square for the time being until I find a more permanent place.

But pointers and directions? Would be totally fab. Plus, it seems like you’re close to some of the neighborhoods I’ve been eyeing, so I’ll definitely have to hit you up for advice sometime. 🙂

  6. A little late to the party, but CONGRATULATIONS! That is awesome, and I am totally excited for you! And I agree with cantaloupe, your life rocks!

  7. AHHHHH!! EEEEEE!! That is sooo exciting. Congrats!! Not that Austin wouldn’t have been great, but I loooove San Francisco and I have a feeling you will as well! Now there’s even more of a reason for me to meet you in person 😉

  8. Totally late, but wow, it’s exciting that you got moved to the main headquarters!! 😉 Plus California perfect year-round weather > Texas humidity any day, or so I’m told.

As I’ve never actually been to the West coast, I can’t say much, but I hope it all works out! 🙂

  9. This is really a cool website!!
