2010: A Retrospective

Happy 2011! I’ve been meaning to post this sooner but it looks like the new year decided to bite me in the ass and give me a 103° fever. I suppose that I’m not getting off to a great start with this whole new year spirit, what with me being confined to a bed for the bulk of the day.

Anyway. I’ve got 357 more days to appreciate whatever the year has to throw my way, so no matter. Instead, I’ll talk about 2010, which was actually a pretty good year. Like most years, I did an absolutely shit job at remembering — let alone keeping — my resolutions, and there are still areas in dire need of self-improvement. However, 2010 wasn’t like 2009, which got off to a fantastic start only to fizzle out come September. Nor was it like 2007, which swung to pendulum-esque extremes of highs and lows. Nor was it like 2006, which uh — plain sucked, end of story. The fact that I made it through 2010 alive and enjoyed myself along the duration of the ride is probably a Very Good Thing, because usually during intropsective times like these, I tend to launch into hyper-critical mode where I’m like THIS YEAR COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF I (verb) AND IF I HAD BEEN MORE (adjective). Yeah, my super-deep entries about Life and Other Facets of the Universe are, in fact, glorified Mad Libs games. What about it.

Since pictures do a better job of speaking a thousand words or whatever, and I’m feeling inarticulate at the moment, I’m going to pilfer through my Flickr and present to you my year in pictures. So, let’s do the Time Warp (…AGAIN!) and relive my 2010. It’s picture-heavy and it errs on this side of rambly, so don’t say that I didn’t warn you!

A Case of the Nomnoms

Fri 15 Jan 2010 at 12:13 am  ♥  Filed under Singapore 2010, Travel

I must say, my absolute favorite thing about Singapore has to be the food; there’s a ton of variety (Indian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, American for starters) to be had and the prices are totally worth it.

Case in point: the duck rice (and soup, gratis!) below.

Grand total? $3 SGD, which translates to $2.16 USD. Back in NY, $2.16 could probably buy me the soup, but definitely not the duck nor the rice.

Anyway, I think we could all use a bit more food porn in our lives, so without further ado…

Food Comatose!

Sat 09 Jan 2010 at 10:20 pm  ♥  Filed under Singapore 2010, Travel

Sometimes happiness is going on a Ferris wheel ride, walking along the quay side, eating my way to a food coma, window-shopping, and taking photos of all of the above.

And so describes my first 12 hours in Singapore. Warm weather (compared to the usual slosh in NY) and so much good food to pick? I’m pretty much set for the next two days!

Because I’m one of those weird people that prefers to eat dessert first, this photo goes before all other food photos, hah! This was apple gelato with a hand-painted white chocolate coating made to look like an apple. The best part was definitely the chocolate “core” in the middle, hands down.
