About » Artistic Background

My artistic history goes back ---- way, way back to my little-kid drawings. I'm not sure if I ever had one of those epiphanies where I was suddenly introduced to art, because I have always loved drawing. I always drew when I was a kid; I was perfectly content with pen and paper. I took the required art classes in elementary and middle school, but most of my drawings were self-motivated and initiated.

Technically, I was 12 when I started getting interested in webdesign and 14 when I started getting interested in digital illustration and the like. However, I was limited to an obsolete scanner, a basic photo-editing program that wasn't really much better than MS Paint, dial up internet, and a bulky mouse. Since I was mainly drawing for Neopets-related purposes, I wasn't exactly creating personal pieces of art. When I outgrew Neopets and focused more on webdesign, I got Paint Shop Pro 7 and started illustrating original works. I then had my first personal site at lust.toxic-emotions.net in summer 2003, but the domain owner closed down the site shortly after. I then established a portfolio at solitas.tornskirt.org in fall 2004, but that also closed after a few months. By then, I decided that it was time for my own domain, unlovable.org. When unlovable.org was at its "apex", I was 15, and it was the summer of 2004 when I spent so much time illustrating. Granted, I was still a beginner at digital illustration, but that was when I started to get seriously interested in creating art on the computer. I incorporated my work in my layouts, and I owned and maintained a multitude of websites.

Unfortunately, unlovable.org expired, I got Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom tablet, and I moved on to belledame.net in spring 2005. Belledame was a small blog-based domain, but unfortunately, I didn't really have the time to keep up with it. I then directed my attention toward LiveJournal and thus established one of my biggest art projects there, kitsche at the start of 2006. LiveJournal gave me a great outlet to meet new people and share my artwork.

For a while (read: two years), I was debating over establishing a domain to house my work. Thus, cindypepper.com was established! Looking back, I am amazed at how I've come since those Neopets days in middle school! But then again, even today, I'm still trying to pick up as many different techniques as I can. I still believe that I have much room for improvement, and I hope to get better with each new piece I create.
